January 17, 2012

Dena and I both have some weird traditions and quirks.

– Dena buys new underwear before the start of a new school year.

– Makenzie has a pen pal who lives in Portland

-Dena didn’t wash her hair for the whole month of June 2011

– Makenzie loves goat cheese on her scrambled eggs

-Dena’s favorite drawing supplies are ball point pens and index cards

– Makenzie has a cherished record collection from her granddad

In answer to #2: Several Ahmad Jamal live recordings (jazz pianist popular in the 60’s/70’s). I started getting into jazz after listening to his “Live at the Savoy” album. Johnny Cash’s “Live at Folsom”. Jonas Jones (jazz trumpeter) and some Frank Sinatra. My family is really into jazz. Some of my favorite memories are dancing around with my mom listening to the Mills Brothers when I was maybe 3 or 4.

To answer #1 (a little background information, i try to give up one form of personal hygiene each June just because i can (and i guess because i’m a little obsessive and pretty darn weird). So in June 2011 i gave up washing my hair. NO SHAMPOO FOR THE WHOLE FREAKIN’ MONTH)
So, how did it go? Honestly it was so long ago i think i’ve suppressed most of the memories but in a nutshell – it happened, and i’m glad i don’t have to do it again. On the other hand i was in Kauai, Hawaii for a majority of the month on vacation so it wasn’t THAT bad. Ocean water and hawaiian leis can make anyones hair look like a mermaid.
No, i don’t remember it itching … but, well. I’m thinking this might make a good future post. Guess you’ll just have to keep following our blog to find out the whole truth.
