free concert: dr. dog

March 19, 2012

One thing i take for granted, living in such a big city, are the daily opportunities to hear high quality live music. With venues like: Fitzgeralds, Warehouse Live, McGonigel’s mucky duckdiscovery green concert series, and cactus – there is no reason why Houstonions shouldn’t be indulging in live music constantly.

This past saturday Cactus music hosted a 45 min FREE Dr. Dog concert. Jackie (good friend i ment from Food Not Bombs who now lives/ goes to school in San Antonio, Tx) and i arrived early to people/ snag a good spot watched while we waited for Dr. Dog to set up. We saw a bunch of acquaintances, if you frequent live music shows in Houston as much as i do you tend to see the same people, and shopped around (did i mention Cactus is a great locally owned independent record shop ?)

A little after 3 pm Dr. Dog took the stage (about 6 feet away from us) and automatically began asking for requests.

They played a bunch of our favorites: heart it races, jackie wants a black eye, black hole, and shadow people (along with half a dozen other hits)

1./2. at first we were sort of far away (about 8 feet from the stage – which is TOO far for me)   3./4. half way through the show we shimmied up to the front and got these great shots.   5. jackie (black shirt and glasses) enjoying the music.   6. jackie taking a picture of the guitars while we waited to meet the band.   7. a creeper shot of the band chilling out back, behind the record shop.
