twickenham road trip: lotta from stockholm clogs
yesterday makenzie and i decided to take a little road-tip from london central to twickenham. and by road trip i mean we took 3 different tubes and 1 train. the whole thing took a little more than an hour, so ya it was a road trip. we decided to venture out to twickenham for 1 reason – to vist/buy me some lotta from stockholm CLOGS. i’ve seen a-lot-of lotta clogs on all my favorite blogs (any bluebirdvintage, abeautifulmess, or skunkboy readers out there? ) and right before my trip to london thought i’d bite the bullet and buy some online, but upon further research i discovered that lotta and her husband are located out of london and that if i planned it right i could vist them while here on vacation. WOW this sort of stuff always happens to me while abroad, its in moments like these that i realize what a small place the world can be. this story is long and serendipitous so get ready:
whats the best part of this picture? makenzie’s cute-super london-hip outfit or the adorable flats and gardens in this little town? its hard to decide but i’d probably pick the real person one. (btw Mak this is me being nice to you on the internet so for pay back you have to do something nice like turn out the lights or make the popcorn tonight. hehehe – gottcha)
MAK’S NOTE: DUH I WILL DO SOMETHING NICE AND IT WAS A REALLY BIG DEAL FOR ME TO WEAR LEGGINGS BECAUSE I NEVER WEAR THEM AND IT TOOK ME 3 DAYS TO GET MY COURAGE UP
and so the lotta story begins: makenzie and i couldn’t really tell from the lotta clog website if they had a store front or what but we were sure about one thing: on the contact page lotta herself said “pop around for a spot of tea … we’re near the twickenham rugby stadium”. so we followed the signs towards the stadium and upon arrival looked at each other and said “now what?” we had no further directions and thought it too haphazard to just aimlessly walk around looking for what we might not even find and we didn’t even know if it existed so what do resourceful girls like us do? ask for help at the marriott concierge – which btw was run by a literal 12 year old boy. ok so after 5 minutes of explaining that swedish hasbeen clogs are not anything like crocs we were finally able to get lotta’s phone number and makenzie took the reins and made the call. johnny, the husband answered and WOW it was so meant to be. turns out they don’t have a store front, more of a warehouse AND although he was way busy that day he happened to be driving literally right in front of the marriott hotel that very moment we called and we followed his van 1 block away to the sketch-city self storage parking lot.
from there we followed johnny into the official warehouse – hummm, have baby bird mom or elsie or katie bloggers ever been to lotta warehouse – i didn’t think so. and btw it was totally legit and johnny was super nice. after shaking our hands johnny asked if i had any type in mind and i said “in fact, yes, i am wanting a pair of high heel – closed toe – red – size 40”, he then picked the top box off the shelf closest to him and wow – they fit perfect, i paid him in cash and the whole transaction took less than 5 minutes.
We spent maybe all of 5 minutes buying the clogs so we decided to find a place for lunch. We asked a really cute guy on the street where we should eat. “Don’t go to the kebab place, it’s rubbish. You want to go to P.K.’s. They do a great student lunch.” So we went in and got some fish and chips, and onion rings for Dena. Turned out the guy was like best friends with the owner and he rung us up.
Well, you can’t really tell from this photo dena snook, but he was really cute. And look how nicely pressed his shirt is. P.S This restaurant got 5 out of 5 for the hygeine rating assigned to restaurants here so yep. If you’re ever in twickenham…
DENA NOTE: THE GUY WAS WAY NICE AND PERSONABLE AND EVEN GAVE US A CUTE LITTLE HAND WRITTEN NOTE OF PLACES TO CHECK OUT IN LONDON,OK POTENTIAL BOYFRIENDS IN HOUSTON COME OUT COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE – WE’RE READY FOR YOU.
Stopped and asked a dad if there was a park near by, totally not expecting to find one. SURPRISE – follow the windy road, veer right, don’t go down the alley way that LOOKS like a park but keep walking until the road curves around….that’s how all the directions are here.
YUM. Deep fried everything. Very greasy but really good but actually kind of made me sick that afternoon.
Garden allotments. So there are giant stretches of land devoted to gardening and old people can lease plots to grow their own veggies. How did we find out about it? By asking the cutie of course!
We were thirsty on the way home so we stopped at this hole in the wall coffee place at the train station. We expected it to be kind of sad and chain-y and not cute at all. SURPRISE it was one of the cutest places we’ve been in! Mod furniture, yummy food, and full of bright light and happy music. We got a cherry milkshake that tasted like milk mixed with cherry, very little icecream but oh well. An hour and a half later on the train and tube we were home. It’s easy to forget how long commuting takes but it’s okay because it’s vacation and we have all the time in the world.
